After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Sainristil falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 50th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 112 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Tykee Smith in pick 127, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jason Marshall Jr. at No. 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They took Ainias Smith at par in Round 5, Pick 26, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylan Ford at slot 165 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Mike Sainristil in the 179th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 196 with a little surplus value in Keith Randolph Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marques Cox at pick 233 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
