Call it larceny. Kamal Hadden sat on the board until pick 210, and the Eagles did not need to be asked twice.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. With interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him.
They took Payton Wilson at par in No. 50, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in slot 53. It fills a real need, too.
A curious use of the 120th overall pick. Interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
Nice patience on Luke McCaffrey, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 25. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in pick 171, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 172 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Kamal Hadden at the 210th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
