Arizona Cardinals

No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Cardinals.

Some picks age like wine; DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 225 will need to, sitting 44 spots clear of his grade. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In the 4th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 28
Keon Coleman at Round 1, Pick 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 26
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Morgan in slot 35. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 66 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 69
They took Adisa Isaac at par in pick 71, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 67
They will replay Caelen Carson at No. 85 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 96
Tykee Smith slipping to the 104th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 137
Jaheim Bell at the 133rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 132
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nehemiah Pritchett at slot 140. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 180
They let Sam Hartman come to them and pounced at No. 188. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 269
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 225, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 208
Isaiah Neyor in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
