The phones were a trap the Cardinals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Ford pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caelen Carson at pick 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jackson Powers-Johnson slid further than he should have, and the 71st overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Corum at the 81st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good price on McKinnley Jackson in pick No. 104, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in the 119th pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylan Ford at pick No. 133, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kamal Hadden slipping to slot 141 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Moose Muhammad III at pick 163. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Steve Linton in No. 190; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Phil Jurkovec at Round 7, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
