Somebody took the Cardinals to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Monheim falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Caleb Williams in Round 1, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In pick 5 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 27 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Chris Braswell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Calen Bullock slipping to slot 66 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kingsley Suamataia worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Adisa Isaac went about where he belonged in the 71st overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caelen Carson at No. 85 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Marist Liufau at No. 97 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Donovan Edwards at pick 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kris Abrams-Draine adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman untouched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaheim Bell in the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Moose Muhammad III slid further than he should have, and slot 164 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Monheim at the 188th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Isaiah Neyor in the 204th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Omar Speights in pick No. 225, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Sheridan Jones higher than pick 227, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
