The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 141 name on the board, sitting there at pick 165 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nelson Ceaser in pick 108 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Hart in the 130th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Keith Randolph Jr. in Round 5, Pick 12, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Nehemiah Pritchett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Roger Rosengarten slid further than he should have, and the 179th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
