The one they had to fix is still broken. The Raiders left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCaffrey. If Steele pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 44th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cooper Beebe in the 77th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than pick No. 150 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Omar Speights in slot 190 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had cheaper options than Carson Steele at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
