Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tyrice Knight got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at the 240th pick.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in pick No. 50: Edgerrin Cooper for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had DJ James higher than the 97th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tykee Smith slipping to the 160th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke McCaffrey at slot 170 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let AJ Barner come to them and pounced at No. 171. It fills a real need, too.
Layden Robinson at pick 178 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyrice Knight in No. 240 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
