The Vikings put a flag in the ground for Garrett Dellinger, 84 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emery Jones at Round 2, Pick 11. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Ajani Cornelius, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Antwane Wells Jr.. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking DJ Uiagalelei in slot 139 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at the Round 5 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Benjamin Yurosek at pick 171 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 194th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Garrett Dellinger at the 203rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
