Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Jalen Milroe, the No. 94 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 5 slot. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Higgins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nick Emmanwori in No. 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 68 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Charles Grant all the way to slot 119, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalen Milroe in Round 5, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Jay Higgins in the 180th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Alijah Huzzie at the 213th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land R.J. Mickens in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
You do not let a tight end like Oronde Gadsden II reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
