The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Sebastian Castro, the No. 86 name on the board, sitting there at No. 160 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Cornelius pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in No. 58 with a little surplus value in Shemar Stewart. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Fairchild slipping to pick 63 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Ajani Cornelius enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 95. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 128th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They will replay Sebastian Castro at Round 5, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Howard Cross III is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 166, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
