Grand theft in pick 160: the Eagles steal Castro and grade out a B.

The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Sebastian Castro, the No. 86 name on the board, sitting there at No. 160 like a gift left on the doorstep.

The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Cornelius pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.26 · Pick 58 · Shemar Stewart · DL-EDGE · rank 51
A clean, defensible pick in No. 58 with a little surplus value in Shemar Stewart. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 55
Dylan Fairchild slipping to pick 63 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 103
They liked Ajani Cornelius enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 95. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.27 · Pick 128 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 65
Taking Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 128th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.23 · Pick 160 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 86
They will replay Sebastian Castro at Round 5, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.27 · Pick 164 · Howard Cross III · DL · rank 152
Howard Cross III is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.29 · Pick 166 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 132
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 166, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
