The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Dont'e Thornton Jr., slot 222, roughly 42 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Bryant pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good price on Omarion Hampton in pick No. 37, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Carson Schwesinger went about where he belonged in slot 68. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cobee Bryant at No. 108 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Lathan Ransom at the 143rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DJ Giddens at the Round 6 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylen Reed at pick 213 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Nice patience on Jay Higgins, who had no business lasting to the 215th overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in the 222nd pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
