Somebody in the 90th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cardinals sat still while Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 31 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Jordan Morgan was the payoff at No. 35. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Bralen Trice in the 44th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kiran Amegadjie worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cooper Beebe at the 71st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Quinyon Mitchell all the way to slot 90, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nothing to complain about; MarShawn Lloyd went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Travis at pick No. 140 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Christian Jones in the 188th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Speights in pick 225. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Brian Ugwu higher than the 227th pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
