Arizona Cardinals

Cowing should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a A.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jacob Cowing got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the 227th overall pick. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.

They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Bottom line, with Marvin Harrison Jr. leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In pick No. 4 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 79
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in Round 3, Pick 16, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 90
No drama and no debate, Braden Fiske went about where he belonged in pick 89. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 73
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 95
A slide stopped in No. 104, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Isaiah Adams · OT · rank 121
The board had Isaiah Adams higher than slot 133, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 132
Javon Foster in the 137th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 126
Jaden Hicks in the 140th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · DeWayne Carter · DT · rank 204
DeWayne Carter at the 188th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · BJ Mayes · CB · rank 216
BJ Mayes at Round 7, Pick 5 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 177
They robbed the room for Jacob Cowing here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Jayson Jones · DL · rank 298
A wild overpay on Jayson Jones in pick No. 248, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
