The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. Thomas has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Barton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 10 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Value with a capital V on Graham Barton in the 46th pick, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Max Melton in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Junior Colson at pick 117 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid a round early for Frank Gore Jr. in the 150th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Theo Johnson slipping to No. 153 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Xavier Thomas in pick No. 190 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Miles Frazier at the 234th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
