Nobody else had Jordan Whittington anywhere near the 187th overall pick. The Vikings did, by 84 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, DJ James at slot 108 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Darius Robinson in pick No. 129 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen at the 160th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylan Ford at pick 168 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Grayson Murphy at Round 6, Pick 4. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Jordan Whittington in pick 187 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Myles Jones in slot 230, a genuine coup. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
