Minnesota Vikings

Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: A-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Carson Steele, 65 picks early at Round 6, Pick 42. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

However the rest shakes out, Tampa at that price is a win they earned. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.

In the end it comes back to Bralen Trice, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 22
A clean, defensible pick in Round 1, Pick 28 with a little surplus value in Bralen Trice. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 42
They will replay T.J. Tampa at pick No. 84 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 86
A tidy little value on Roman Wilson in the 92nd pick, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 107
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Pratt. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 129
A straight-up fair deal on Sataoa Laumea at slot 130, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 168
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for LaDarius Henderson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 141
You do not let a cornerback like Kamal Hadden reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 192
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 167
Chau Smith-Wade slid further than he should have, and No. 179 is lovely value for the cornerback. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 282
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Steele in pick No. 217, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 224
By-the-book stuff, Jawhar Jordan at the 219th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 210
Christian Jones at Round 7, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 235
Isaiah Neyor slipping to the 246th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
