You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Isaiah Davis at the 148th overall pick, roughly 44 spots before his name belonged.
The Muhammad value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jonah Elliss in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Junior Colson at No. 90 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in slot 108, with Zak Zinter worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 130 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Isaiah Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Moose Muhammad III in pick No. 160 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brennan Jackson in Round 5, Pick 29, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had LaDarius Henderson higher than slot 179, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jabbar Muhammad in pick 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
