Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. Nate Wiggins, the No. 15 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 42. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They robbed the room for Nate Wiggins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Michael Pratt at slot 108 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Sataoa Laumea at par in the 130th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
James Williams in Round 5, Pick 12 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Layden Robinson in pick 160, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 165 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing LaDarius Henderson in No. 179. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 230 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
