When a board-topper like Lander Barton slides to No. 216, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not.
Reaching for Milroe left real value on the table behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Raiders paired the rookies with proven help, Mike Hilton leading the way.

Pick-by-Pick
Emeka Egbuka slid further than he should have, and No. 37 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malaki Starks in pick 46 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Milroe this early at the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 68. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in the 73rd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kaleb Johnson at Round 3, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Barrett Carter in the 106th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Tate Ratledge here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Dylan Fairchild at the 117th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 142 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 178th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board fumbled Lander Barton all the way to pick No. 216, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Circle this one: Luke Lachey at slot 222 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
