You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Texans did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The cost of the Jordan reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached a country mile for T'Vondre Sweat at pick 40, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Cooper Beebe in slot 66, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Roman Wilson in Round 3, Pick 7 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Javon Foster at pick No. 123 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Ben Sinnott at par in the 134th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Simpson. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Josh Proctor in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Jawhar Jordan in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
