Every other box got a look, but interior defensive lineman did not. The Texans will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
Every board in the league had Ugwu lower, and that gap is the story. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Braswell in slot 49 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zach Frazier at pick No. 92 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in No. 117. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 126th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Devin Neal at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jahdae Barron in pick 234 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid a round early for Brian Ugwu in the 238th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
