The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Ricky Pearsall, the No. 200 name on the board, sitting there at No. 234 like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in pick No. 49; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at slot 92, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Audric Estime in the 117th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Mohamed Kamara in pick 154 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Ricky Pearsall all the way to Round 7, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Duce Chestnut at No. 238 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
