The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Brenden Rice fell into Round 4, Pick 24.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Cooper DeJean at par in pick 53, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Christian Haynes in the 95th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 121st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brenden Rice at pick No. 124 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Jo'Quavious Marks in Round 5, Pick 22, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
