For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Odunze. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in the 58th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Christian Haynes in the 90th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 123, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took James Williams at par in pick 126, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Washington in the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in No. 239: Nathaniel Watson for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
They let Cody Schrader come to them and pounced at pick No. 247. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
