The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Kaden Prather, 57 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The Van Pran pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Barrett Carter a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in the 78th pick, where Sedrick Van Pran graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tyleik Williams at Round 3, Pick 25 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on James Williams in slot 114, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Cameron Ward at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They went early on Will Shipley in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Shemar Turner at pick 192 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Omar Speights in slot 199, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Joshua Gray at No. 207 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kaden Prather at Round 7, Pick 15 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
