Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Elijah Jones got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 18.
The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
So much rides on Nate Wiggins that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chris Braswell is a better player than the 53rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Edgerrin Cooper worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Calen Bullock in Round 3, Pick 5 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Jaylen Wright, who had no business lasting to pick No. 91. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in the 97th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jacob Cowing in No. 121, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joe Milton III. A need, and now a little less of one.
AJ Barner slipping to the 178th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 22: Johnny Dixon for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Curtis Jacobs at the 216th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
