Start where it matters. The Raiders took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The McCarthy pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.

The Neyor pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 46
They reached into another round for J.J. McCarthy, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 41
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 44 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 68
Mekhi Wingo at the 66th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 74
Nothing to complain about; Blake Corum went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 82
No drama and no debate, Mike Sainristil went about where he belonged in the 78th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 85
Gabriel Murphy in slot 90 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 116
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at pick 112 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
Max Melton in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.14 · Pick 150 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 153
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 150; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 166
A reach for Kitan Oladapo in slot 154; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 179
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 15. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.14 · Pick 234 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 218
They let Isaiah Neyor come to them and pounced at pick No. 234. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
