The phones were a trap the Texans kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
A conviction pick on Ja'Tavion Sanders at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in pick 50, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in slot 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Roman Wilson at par in No. 78, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, James Williams went about where he belonged in the 126th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick No. 137 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Wright at the 141st pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
