Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders let Reed fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Future D+

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Jaylen Reed, the No. 179 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 218. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Gadsden II reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Will Campbell · OT · rank 11
In the 14th pick they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · Shemar Stewart · DE-EDGE · rank 15
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 21
Kenneth Grant in the 37th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Dylan Sampson · RB · rank 61
Dylan Sampson in No. 68 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Darien Porter · CB · rank 76
Darien Porter in slot 73 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 86
No edge and no loss on Danny Stutsman in pick No. 87; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Jalen Milroe · QB · rank 95
The board had Jalen Milroe higher than Round 4, Pick 6, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.5 · Pick 144 · Brashard Smith · RB · rank 111
Circle this one: Brashard Smith at pick 144 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.21 · Pick 160 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 180
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Oronde Gadsden II. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.4 · Pick 182 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 174
They read the board right and Dont'e Thornton Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 182. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.36 · Pick 214 · Donovan Edwards · RB · rank 186
They will replay Donovan Edwards at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.40 · Pick 218 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 179
Somehow Jaylen Reed was still sitting there in slot 218, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.33 · Pick 251 · Nick Martin · LB · rank 265
They paid a round early for Nick Martin in pick 251, more than the board wanted. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
