Thirty-one other rooms let Jalen Milroe slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at pick No. 182. Highway robbery. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
Every board in the league had Thornton Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
Tetairoa McMillan at pick No. 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Kenneth Grant, who had no business lasting to slot 33. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Booker in pick 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
TreVeyon Henderson is a better player than the 67th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Darien Porter in No. 68 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Jackson a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Savion Williams in Round 4, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 144th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Jalen Milroe at pick 182 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Raheim Sanders at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Roc Taylor in No. 218 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They liked Kitan Crawford enough to skip the value, taking him in the 224th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
