Whoever sat across the table from the Eagles should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
Reaching for Jean-Baptiste left real value on the table behind him. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Julian Blackmon pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Zach Frazier at par in pick No. 50, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Marist Liufau at pick 161 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A real head-scratcher, Kalen King in No. 171 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javontae Jean-Baptiste well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bub Means at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
