There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took David Walker a full 107 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
On value alone, Gordon II makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A big swing on David Walker at the 64th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Tez Johnson in Round 3, Pick 32, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
TreVeyon Henderson in No. 132 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in the 162nd overall pick, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They barely believed it either: Terrance Ferguson still on the board at pick No. 166. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jackson Slater in Round 5, Pick 30 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Ollie Gordon II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
