The war room fell hard for Christian Mahogany, and it showed at pick No. 151: 44 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; T.J. Tampa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Byron Murphy II at the 50th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick 59 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylin Simpson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Tahj Brooks at No. 114, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for MarShawn Lloyd, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Mahogany at No. 151 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steve Linton in pick No. 191. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jahdae Barron at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Sam Hartman in pick 235 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
