Somebody in pick No. 99 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 53 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will need Barrett to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Kris Jenkins at par in slot 50, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Christian Mahogany in the 76th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quinyon Mitchell at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Ray Davis at pick No. 112, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at pick 149, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Barrett in No. 155, miles early. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Lathan Ransom in Round 6, Pick 15 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Ricky Pearsall at the 233rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
