The Raiders bet big and early on Kendall Milton, 239 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The Charlie Thomas III pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a press-man option on the boundary, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Christian Haynes in slot 78 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bucky Irving. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zach Frazier this early at the 114th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cam Hart in the 151st overall pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in Round 6, Pick 17, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kendall Milton at pick 199 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at the 207th pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Rylie Mills in slot 235 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
