The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The Barrett steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Sweat pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a long-term answer under center, and a steal at that.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 44th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Corum in slot 77. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Khyree Jackson in No. 113 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and James Williams at pick 147 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 15, where Roger Rosengarten graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Barrett in the 221st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Christian Jones at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
