Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings found their guy under center in Maye: D.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The cost of the Bortolini reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Hall Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In pick No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 32
A tidy bit of business in pick 42, where Chris Braswell graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 89
Steal is underselling it; Michael Hall Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 118
Kris Abrams-Draine slid further than he should have, and the 131st pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · James Williams · S · rank 130
The board had James Williams higher than Round 5, Pick 3, and the safety fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Braelon Allen at No. 158 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 177
A conviction pick on Jordan Jefferson at the 160th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
They will replay Jaylin Simpson at slot 166 for years; that is how good the value is. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 206
Tanor Bortolini in slot 179 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 202
A slide stopped in the 213th overall pick, with Jawhar Jordan worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Chad Lindberg · C · rank 251
Chad Lindberg at pick No. 230 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 231
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nathaniel Watson at the Round 7 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
