Thirty-one other rooms let Dont'e Thornton Jr. slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Alec Pierce deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Armand Membou · OT · rank 22
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Jonah Savaiinaea · OT · rank 47
A reach for Jonah Savaiinaea in the 34th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 41
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jihaad Campbell. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Xavier Watts · S · rank 46
Xavier Watts in pick No. 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Darien Porter · CB · rank 75
Darien Porter in slot 72 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Jaylin Noel · WR · rank 96
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylin Noel in No. 99. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.6 · Pick 108 · Anthony Belton · OT · rank 115
By-the-book stuff, Anthony Belton at pick 108 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.5 · Pick 143 · Joshua Farmer · DT · rank 117
Joshua Farmer at pick No. 143 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
R6.4 · Pick 180 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 146
They will replay Raheim Sanders at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.37 · Pick 213 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 173
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in No. 213, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.39 · Pick 215 · Donovan Edwards · RB · rank 184
Donovan Edwards in slot 215 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
