Somebody in the 233rd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Ricky White, the No. 178 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Tariq Woolen gives the group a proven body among the projects. Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinn Ewers in pick 44 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Cooper DeJean, who had no business lasting to pick No. 68. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for McKinnley Jackson in No. 79, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 112th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Haynes reach slot 115 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaden Hicks at Round 4, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nehemiah Pritchett in slot 165 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They will replay Jonah Monheim at pick No. 179 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in Round 6, Pick 15, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 233 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
