They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tyreak Sapp, 137 picks early at slot 142. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Mondon Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value.
They went early on Jalen Milroe in the 37th pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kaleb Johnson at Round 3, Pick 4 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Tate Ratledge here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tai Felton at pick No. 106 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyreak Sapp this early at the 142nd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A safety of that caliber at slot 178 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 212th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at the 216th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Jackson Hawes in pick 222; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
