The Vikings torched the value chart for Trajan Jeffcoat, taking him 89 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Dixon steal is the beam this whole class leans on. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left safety open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
In the 11th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 27 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
They paid up for Blake Corum at No. 66 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Tommy Eichenberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Brenden Rice at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Caedan Wallace at No. 157 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Steele Chambers in pick 158, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Christian Jones in slot 167 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 177 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They talked themselves into Trajan Jeffcoat at Round 6, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: M.J. Devonshire at the 230th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
You do not let a cornerback like Johnny Dixon reach the 232nd pick and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
