The Raiders bet big and early on Kyle McCord, 115 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Getting Winston Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid up for Dylan Fairchild at slot 39 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a running back like Dylan Sampson reach pick No. 69 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Jack Bech in the 70th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Kyle McCord at the 106th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A big swing on Thor Griffith at No. 183, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Garrett Dellinger in slot 212, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tim Smith at Round 6, Pick 41 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Jack Kiser here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
