The Collin Oliver selection is the head-turner. The Raiders reached 104 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
On value alone, Giddens makes the weekend a net positive. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a safety like Xavier Watts reach Round 3, Pick 3 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in pick 70, with Jay Higgins worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Kurtis Rourke at No. 106, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Deone Walker slipping to pick No. 142 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Collin Oliver at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Miles Frazier still on the board at the 212th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jonah Monheim in pick 215 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A running back of that caliber at slot 220 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
