The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Dayon Hayes, 89 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Jordan Addison deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In the end it comes back to Kenneth Grant, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Quinn Ewers. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and pick 68 is lovely value for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
Savion Williams at the 97th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zy Alexander slipping to pick No. 108 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
CJ West in Round 6, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 213th pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jack Kiser at No. 215 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A real head-scratcher, Dayon Hayes in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
