The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Paul at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Wiley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Brian Thomas Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 44. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul in slot 77 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 14, where Cedric Gray graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A conviction pick on Jared Wiley at No. 190 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Myles Jones in the 234th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
