After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Duke pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Christian Haynes at pick No. 42 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Christian Mahogany in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in Round 4, Pick 30, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They liked Walter Rouse enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 156. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ty'Ron Hopper a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jaylan Ford at slot 183 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
By-the-book stuff, Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 190th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khalid Duke in the Round 7 slot, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
