There is reaching, and then there is Taulia Tagovailoa at pick 70. The Eagles jumped the board by 220 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Tracy Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keon Coleman in the 50th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 70 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at slot 120, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than Round 5, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick No. 172 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty'Ron Hopper. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in the 210th overall pick, with Erick All worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
