The Eagles clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Watts, taking him 36 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Put together, it is a D.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Eagles indulged a want in Williams while a need in quarterback and running back stayed open.
On value alone, Greenfield makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at No. 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Darius Robinson in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Payton Wilson at par in Round 2, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Malachi Corley in slot 58, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Braden Fiske in No. 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Melton. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaden Hicks in pick No. 80 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Maason Smith in the 100th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Justin Eboigbe at slot 120, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on James Williams with quarterback and running back unsolved.
Nice patience on Johnny Wilson, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 3. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in the 161st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Mustapha at slot 165, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tanor Bortolini at Round 5, Pick 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 172nd pick with a little surplus value in Kamal Hadden. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Eric Watts at pick 194 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 217 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Garret Greenfield here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
