The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Jaxson Dart, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
Reaching for Dart left real value on the table behind him. Landing Gabriel that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Jaxson Dart and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Good price on Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in pick 68: Elic Ayomanor for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Demetrius Knight Jr., who had no business lasting to the 73rd overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cam Skattebo at the 107th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Tommi Hill higher than Round 5, Pick 5, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a quarterback like Dillon Gabriel reach No. 182 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ricky White III in slot 214 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 218 with a little surplus value in Trey Zuhn III. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Seth McLaughlin at Round 7, Pick 6 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
